Colonel Henry Steel Olcott
1832-1907
OES was established in 1894 as the Olcott Panchanama Free School for the underprivileged children. During the last 120 years, it has transformed the lives of thousands of boys and girls through free education.
OES has an integral relationship with The Theosophical Society and the six units of the OES function from the International Headquarters of The Theosophical Society. OES was registered as a separate Society in 1905.
Olcott Memorial Higher Secondary School Olcott Memorial Higher Secondary School is a free school providing free education, school uniforms, educational materials and nutritious meals to about 500 underprivileged boys and girls. It was established in 1894 by the founder President of The Theosophical Society for the upliftment of the socially and economically disadvantaged through education. The school emphasizes value education and good citizenship apart from excellence in academics, sports and crafts.
Social Welfare Centre provides free day care to about 100 children in the age group of 2-5 enabling their parents to go for productive work. The children are well looked after; are provided with nutritious meals and health care; and are taught nursery rhymes, games, songs, dance, and alphabets.
HPB Hostel houses free of cost about 30 boys, whose home life is difficult, to enable them to pursue their studies in different schools in Chennai. They are well looked after and are provided with nutritious food and health care.
Vocational Training Centre provides a year-long free diploma course to about 25 women to acquire skills in weaving, tailoring, embroidery etc. They are enabled to find jobs or become self-employed. The scope of vocational training is being expanded to cover other areas. Recently, a short course was conducted for ex-students of OMHS to enable them to work as electricians.
Animal Welfare Centre has three qualified doctors and other staff who provide free treatment to about 10,000 animals in a year. The centre also has an outreach programme, provides vaccination and is equipped for surgery.

OES spends about INR 6.5 million annually for its activities, receives no government grants and purely depends on interest from its corpus funds and donations. You may like to contribute to its corpus funds or for any of its specific activities.
